Travel is one thing and before stepping foot in the stirrup, a long upstream preparation is necessary.
What will be my trip (departure, arrival)? Here is what I expect steps? Where can I Park? How much will I pay? How I will know if this place is good or not?
So many questions raised by the majority of camper today!
Many sites reference areas reserved for campers, but the details are sometimes a little weak to give a reliable picture of the chosen destination. Trust is very important before embarking on an adventure…
To properly prepare his trip, need to go well in advance. Here are a few tips:
Your trip: -Consider, prior to the time you want to leave (1 weekend, 1 week, 1 month) and the cities or must-see villages you want to visit. -Inquire about stops available (services areas, campsites and private areas) on our way. You can find this information on websites, in magazines “The world of the Camping Car” or even “Camping Car Magazine”, or on blogs, forums, etc. -Ask the availability of campsites (if you choose this hosting solution) and book as early as possible to not find themselves “on the street” when the time comes. -Trace its route on a map, or else mark the different steps on a logbook. -Decide its crew: alone, romantic, family, or several motorhomes, with an association or a camper club.
Your vehicle: -Prepare your camper to take the route: necessary repairs if necessary, make all the controls (liquid brakes, oil level, water level, fluid for power steering, tire inflation, correct operation of lighting, cleanliness of the vehicle: windscreen, registration plates,…) level of gas, battery, spare wheel, windshield washer fluid). -Contact your social security to check if the medical potential and hospitalisation costs are supported. -Also think several months in advance to vaccines that may be compulsory, whether it’s for you or your pet (note that if you go in Britain, there are many restrictions as to pets to bring the territory). -In some countries, valid national permit may be sufficient to be in good standing, but be aware that there are some exceptions where you have to have an international permit. -Remember to check your insurance, see to take a civil insurance extensions to continue to be covered during the entire duration of your trip and the territories that you will go through. -Think also to other Passport-type documents to provide a few months in advance. – And finally, last recommendation, do not hesitate to visit the website of the Ministry of the Interior which will inform you if the country you are going to cross are regarded as ‘at risk’ or not.
One last tip before the great departure: remember that you can not exceed GVW (weight Total authorized laden) who is enrolled on the gray card of your vehicle and includes all charges (passenger, baggage and full)!
We have discovered, there is this shortly, a new website which is based on the concept of collaborative consumption. This is the new TripAdvisor and the campervan Airbnb!
CaraMaps, “the first tool which includes all services for which a camper needs”, that is their slogan. Their website is already online and a mobile application is available on Android and the App Store.
Now that you have all the keys in hand, just simply sign and return to the CaraMaps community!
