At the beginning of 2021, traveling in motorhome with Covid can be difficult or even prohibited during this curfew period. Even if the European borders are open, we no longer go on holidays with the same recklessness… Be careful Covid-19: barrier gestures, restrictions, curfew…
What about the rules to follow within the European Union? Can we travel to France, go to Italy, Spain, Portugal… in motorhome right now?
Before considering any travel on national territory or abroad, it is best to find out about the restrictions and precautions to take. Many countries have established curfews, be careful if you take the road in motorhome!
The Covid and curfew situation in France
Today, curfew measures apply across France. So from Saturday January 16th 2021 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., non-essential movements will be prohibited. The aim of the curfew is to limit gatherings during which barrier gestures are less well respected and where the virus circulates quickly.
According to the risk of the spread of COVID-19, french borders will be controlled. From Monday January 18th 2021, travelers coming from a country outside the European Union will have to present a negative test to enter the national territory.
Be careful if you are traveling to France, be well informed, each local authority can apply additional measures by prefectural decree. A certificate of exceptional travel is available outside of curfew hours.
The restrictions established in Spain
Today, a curfew also applies in Spain from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., which limits the movement of the population. Please note also that the autonomous communities have the possibility to modify the curfew hours, find out before any travel!
12 Autonomous Communities apply even more severe restrictions. So that frequent checks or even bans when entering and leaving the territory take place, be careful. For example: Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Castille-La Mancha, Castille-and-Leon, La Rioja, Murcia, Navarre and the Basque Country.
Regarding the evolution of the situation, we advice you to inform yourself very regularly of the measures taken by each autonomous community and to respect them under penalty of sanction.
Rules and curfew in Italy
Today, the Italian regions are classified by zones. Red for maximum risk, orange for high risk and yellow for moderate risk. Nationally, restrictions apply such as the establishment of a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the 3 different zones.
Currently, travelling from the red and orange zones and to these same zones is prohibited. A certificate must justify any movement during the curfew or in these areas.
Sanitary measures are in place for foreign travelers. This can be: reporting your arrival to the competent authorities, filling out an arrival form, performing a covid test, …
Measures taken in Portugal
Motorhome travelers from the European Union can travel to Portugal. However, restrictions are in place in some municipalities – where the risk of covid spread is high. In particular a curfew and a driving ban from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Overall, at European level, all gathering places: restaurants, bars, museums, cinemas, etc. remain closed to the public for the moment.
Of course – wherever you are – do not forget to respect barrier gestures. Also think abut wearing your mask, it is mandatory in public places. Do not hesitate to make a COVID-19 test (PCR) before traveling in any country.
