Is wild camping allowed in Germany?
Before going on a wild camping adventure in Germany, it’s a good idea to find out about the legislation currently in place concerning this practice. Wild camping offers an immense sense of freedom, but there are rules to be observed. There is legislation relating to wild camping in Germany, which is defined according to the laws of each region. In general, wild camping is not permitted in Germany, except under regulations that allow drivers to “restore their ability to drive”. These regulations give drivers the right to stop in a car park for a maximum of 10 hours before getting back on the road.
Be aware that wild camping in Germany is punishable by a fine between €10 and €2,500, depending on the region. In Brandenburg, for example, a night’s wild camping is punishable by a €100 fine, while a night’s camping in a protected nature park in Bavaria can result in a fine of up to €2,500.
